Colonial Williamsburg giving free tickets to military

Colonial Williamsburg is offering free admission tickets to active-duty military, reservists, retirees, veterans and their families Friday through Monday in honor of Memorial Day.

The "Honoring Service to America" ticket provides admission to Colonial Williamsburg's Historic Area and several museums. It includes an orientation walk, free parking and shuttle bus service to and from the visitor center, and a viewing of the movie "Williamsburg, The Story of a Patriot."

Service members need not be present; tickets will be provided to dependent family members of deployed troops, with appropriate identification. Veterans who are not retirees can bring copies of their honorable discharge paperwork, DD Form 214, as identification. The tickets are available at the Colonial Williamsburg Regional Visitor Center, 101 Visitor Center Drive.

Father-daughter ball at Town Center

The Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads will host a Father-Daughter Ball from 6 to 9 p.m. June 13 at the Westin Virginia Beach Town Center.

Active-duty and retired military and their daughters, ages 3 to 18, are invited to spend an evening in an "enchanted forest." Tickets are on sale through June 10 or until they sell out, according to a news release. Prices vary by rank and include dinner, dancing and a photo.
